After Philosophy

A workshop on career choices and alternatives for (soon-to-be) graduates of philosophy

April 26, 10am-12pm - Dominican University College - Room 202

Speakers: Iva Apostolova (Dominican University College) and Jim Mitchell (former Senior Civil Servant, Government of Canada)

You've graduated or are about to graduate, with your philosophy degree. You've developed excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, and you are keenly aware of the big ideas and issues in our world.

But now you have to put those skills to good use. How will you do that?

Contrary to the stereotypes, philosophy graduates gain meaningful employment and earn healthy salaries over the course of their careers. But it takes work, skill and a little bit of strategy to get there. Over two (2) hours, in a relaxed and collegial atmosphere, we will explore the various options available to you within and outside academia, assess the options that might be more interesting to you and present strategies for building a rewarding and lucrative career.

Who will be presenting?

Professor Iva Apostolova will describe career options available within an academic environment.

Jim Mitchell, PhD in philosophy and former senior civil servant in the Canadian Federal government will explain how a philosophy degree can be used to build a solid career outside the university, within government, the private sector or NGOs...

This workshop is open to philosophy graduates (or upcoming graduates) of Dominican University College and other local universities.
