Graduate Philosophy

The fully bilingual graduate department in the Faculty of Philosophy has two primary fields of research. The first field covers the history of philosophy and metaphysics, and the second focuses on modern European philosophy and its historical antecedents.

Ancient Greek philosophy, medieval thinkers such as Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas, the Renaissance, the early rationalists, German Idealism and phenomenology are some areas of investigation in our graduate seminars and Faculty research. One of the principal aims of the Faculty is to understand various philosophical movements in relation to each other.

The Faculty, in consultation with the student, chooses a supervisor who is responsible for directing his or her program of studies. In addition to DUC’s generous scholarship programs and assistantships, it supports graduate student attendance at conferences and colloquia, both nationally and internationally.
