Idealist Philosophies of History

Call for papers

April 19-20, 2018 - Dominican University College / Memorial University

Keynote speakers: Jeffrey Reid (University of Ottawa) and George di Giovanni (McGill University)

Dominican University College, in collaboration with Memorial University, is pleased to announce the call for papers for its upcoming conference Idealist Philosophies of History to take place in Ottawa on April 19-20, 2018. We construe philosophical idealism very broadly, including but not limited to, German Idealism or British Idealism, and all schools of thought that have inspired or been inspired by them. History has taken center stage for philosophers such as Hegel, Schelling, Marx, Cassirer, Collingwood, Chernyshevsky, to mention but a few. We invite presentations that deal with any aspect of philosophy of history within the idealist stream.

Please send a working title and an abstract of 500 words max, prepared for blind peer-review no later than January 31, 2018 to Professor Iva Apostolova at Approval of participation will be announced by March 1, 2018. A tentative program with the list of invited speakers and plenary sessions will be announced shortly after. Doctoral students, particularly those in their last year of studies, are encouraged to submit paper proposals. Presenters will be allotted forty five minutes, half an hour for presentation time and fifteen minutes for questions and comments. The conference is a joint effort of the Department of Philosophy at Dominican University College and the Institute for German Idealism at Memorial University.
