New Testament III: The Gospel of John | Dominican University College

New Testament III: The Gospel of John

Comparative approach: the unique and original character of the fourth Gospel, in comparison with the Synoptic. Thematic approach: using as starting point the Gospel’s ending (20:30-31), we will try to pinpoint and deepen the Gospel’s central notions (signs, works, hour, glorification, life, belief,) and also its theological axis. Literary approach: the Gospel’s structure and the coherence of its witness in its final form. Analytic approach: the study of a few chosen texts, all of which representing different literary genres in John. Diachronic approach: the problem of the Gospel’s sources and its editorial stages: the Johannine school.
