The Dean's Welcome Address | Dominican University College

Faculty of Theology

Welcome to the Faculty of Theology of Dominican University College in Montreal and Ottawa!

Faculty of Higher Studium of the Saint Dominic Province of Canada of the Order of Preachers since 1909, our Institution opened its doors to the public in 1967. It still pursues its mission of developing the intelligence of the faith according to the Dominican tradition.

Theology (literally a « speech about God ») is the work of intelligence that searches to understand divine Revelation. In a world full of uncertainties and questions, Christian Theology never stops to question the founding Scriptures and the Tradition of the church, in order to find the continuous meaning of God’s Word for today. The Gospel, in addition to continuing to inspire innovative practices in humanity, always gives us food for thought based on the questions and challenges that confront individuals and cultures.

Our Faculty awards all the university degrees, both civil and canonical, that is certificates, bachelors, specialized graduate studies degrees, master’s, master of arts and doctorate. It is structured into two departmental entities: the Dominican Pastoral Institute based in Montreal and the Dominican Institute for Graduate Studies in Theology based in Ottawa.

A variety of programs is offered both to believers curious to deepen Christian thought, to pastoral agents wishing to prepare for an ecclesial service, to future priests, to missionaries or pastors wishing to update themselves in theology as to people on a spiritual journey or interested in the religious dimension of the human.

I invite you to browse our site to discover the resources offered by our Faculty: its objectives, its study programs, its congresses, its conferences, and its many activities aimed at promoting life and research in theology in Montreal and Ottawa.

We look forward to counting you among our students and / or our supporters.
